I am a print-maker and jeweller based in Toronto.
In my jewellery making, I often use non-precious and readily available materials such as commercial glass beads, plastics and metal wires. Through designs and fabrication techniques I transform them into provocative, precious and beautiful body ornaments. For the past ten years I have been making jewellery using textile-based techniques that I developed or adapted.
My work is about transformation of materials and hence I am interested in sourcing and using all kinds of materials, construction techniques, tools and technologies in order to explore all possibilities in the pursuit of my craft. I enjoy very simple low-tech fabrication methods such as spool knitting that can be mastered easily and provide limitless possibilities for design exploration.
Since 2004, as part of the Artist-in-Residence for Research project, the focus of my work has been on computer aided design and various Rapid Prototyping systems to produce unique, customized jewellery. My recent award winning die cut, hand assembled 3D textile combines the manufacturing efficiency with the flexibility and inventiveness of contemporary fine craft.
