Wendy Shingler
Studied Fine Art at Cape Town University, South Africa and at St Martins School of Art London England.
While taking a series of History and Art History classes at the University of Wisconsin I discovered their Art Metal department. I enrolled and quickly discovered that this was where I wanted to be.
There was further study at George Brown College and many workshops and collaborations over the years and I still find myself fascinated by metal.
Jewellery has been exhibited in Canada, the U.S., England, Europe and Japan and is in the permanent collections of The Canadian Museum of Civilization and in the Minneapolis Museum of Fine Art, Minneapolis. There have been numerous Design Awards from the Metal Arts Guild and The Ontario Craft Council.
I enjoy exploring the use of alternative metals and materials, and texture and colour have always been an integral part of my work. Natural forms from rock fissures and fossil to vines and seedpods provide endless inspiration. The ideas start there, and transforming these impressions into designs that have freshness and spontaneity is the challenge.
