Doug Adams was born in Stratford, Ontario. His interest in art was stimulated in his high school years in Stratford by the Saturday morning art classes taught by Robert Ihrig. He graduated from OCA (now OCAD) with Honours in 1995 in the Interdisciplinary Studies program. He is a Toronto-based artist who has exhibited in solo and group shows since the 1990s.

Working Methods
Collage and acrylic paint are the fundamental components of my art practice. I start with thin acrylic washes over the canvas or paper and the resulting colour areas and chance effects prompt me to add collage elements such as watercolour paper, Japanese paper, fabric and found objects. I may apply either glazes or thicker layers of paint to the paint and collage areas or I might pull the collage off to reveal the underlying layer. This process of building up a composition so that colour, texture and form coalesce into a cohesive whole is both challenging and exciting.
