…between…
Chung-Im Kim, Gord Thompson, Robert Mitchell
…between… is where we find ourselves; even where we “start” from. In medias res as the Latin poets said: already “in the midst of things”. Already between.
This exhibition opens a space in which to consider what lies between: relations, distances, similarities, bridges and doors.
Working in different craft media, three colleagues at the Ontario College of Art and Design present recent work in Jewellery, Fibre, and Ceramics. The makers pursue individual approaches to constructed form, emphasizing points of connection or separation, and the relations between elements. Coming together for this exhibition, the makers and their work reveal the many dimensions of spaces …between… : between elements, between objects, between makers, between moments, between materials, between disciplines, between people…

June 24 - August 2, 2009 White: Gallery members group show Opening reception – Saturday, June 27, 2-5pm |

Colour is an important part of human expression and this multi-media exhibition follows the gallery’s tradition of colour-themed group shows. The participating artists exhibit work that responds to their unique interpretations invoked by the simple but loaded word, white! Whether you subscribe to the notion that white is the absence of colour or a blending of all colours, the word white is often “charged” - emotionally, psychologically, visually, culturally, historically and more - no lie!
| June 3 – 21, 2009 New Moon Rising Janet Stanley Opening reception: Saturday June 6, 1- 5 pm |
In this exhibition of painting, Stanley associates moons with women - with fertility and creation stories - and with ‘in-between times’ of flux and transition or even transformation. The moon makes her think of tides and night-light, of ritual and pagan celebration, of things in the process of becoming or becoming undone. It is a symbol of hope and unity, of worlds mixing harmoniously and new ways of being in the world.

May 13–May 31 Contact Festival of Photography Urban Urban D.A. Hill and Chris Mack Opening reception: Saturday May 23, 12 – 4pm |
This husband and wife photography team share their black and white vision of the urban environment using traditional and digital techniques.
When you consider street photography as an instrument of reflecting the world around us, it can put forward at least two results. One, the reality of intersections of people in motion and at rest. An observation. The second, an imaginary landscape conjured up by unusual arrangements and visual manipulations. A suggestion.
April 29 – May 10: IV - Intravenous
Michael Willems
In this shocking photographic documentary that is ultimately a story of hope and a tribute to strength and love, Canadian photographer Michael Willems shows a world many of us will never see: the tough world of Toronto hard drug use, and the triumph of escaping from it. Due to the graphic nature of some of the material, and the fact that the exhibit contains some nudity, access is restricted to those 18 years of age and over. For more information:

"In this exhibition, the artists all express very intimate moments and personal stories in their art. For each of them, the process of making as well as the finished piece are integral components in the exploration of themselves, their histories and their growth." - Maura Broadhurst, Curator, The Latcham Gallery, Stouffville, ON.

February 4 – 22, 2009
Just Enough for the City
Aislinn Thomas, Dylan Kurp, Maggie Curtis, Michael Billington, Miles Stemp, and Stephen Wicks
The works in this exhibition comprise a selection from the University of Guelph's Specialized Studio course. The course permits a rigorously selected group of students to pursue an independent studio practice in their medium of choice, working towards a completed body of work. The six artists in this exhibition share an affinity of approach; they enliven historical models of conceptual art and formalism with humour, narrative and a sense of playfulness.
Opening reception: Saturday February 7, 2-5pm
