Found Threads

A six-foot ritual cloth, embroidered by visual artist LADA
together with her 96-year-old mother Marusia in 2005-2006,
is the centerpiece of Found Threads.  It was designed from
cut linen pieces and threads found in her mother’s sewing room.

Inspired by her mother’s hand-embroidered linens, LADA
gives them new life.  Within their existing geometric borders,
she hand stitches multiple images with found threads.  For LADA,
embroidery is a new medium through which she explores the
relationship between order, spontaneity, thread and ritual.
Opening reception: September 9, 3-6 PM

KNOW ASSEMBLY REQUIRED
Eva Ennist and Sharron Forrest are two Toronto artists who for the past twenty years have worked collaboratively and have shared similar sensibilities in their respective work. They both explore the complexities of layering and assemblage, using hand and digitally manipulated imagery along with a variety of materials. The sometimes organic elements contrast compellingly with the industrial surfaces such as Mylar, screening, paint, paper, Plexiglas and/or concrete.
Opening reception: Thursday, Sept. 20, 6-8 pm

silent green
is an homage to the overlooked, the rejected and the marginalized.

There’s a parallel between marginalized people and weeds. They’re both an often-unwelcome reminder that very much of life is beyond human control; that both as a species and as individuals, we’re subject to the randomness of the universe – and to the long-term fallout of our own short-term decisions.

New Work
Through my new work I am exploring the life cycle of plants; for example the physical balance maintained between the visible portion above ground and the less visible below. I hope to evoke a sense of the refined energy that plants demonstrate, and the awesome ability of continuous rebirth.
